I work in Human Resources, I have for the last 7 years. I am a Sr. Generalist/Recruiter and everything in between. I am Mom, Sister, Therapist, Physician, Task Master and I love every minute of it! In saying that I see all kinds of things, adults, grown-a$@ people throwing temper tantrums, throwing things at each other, cussing ( not cursing but cussing) each other out and saying the most asinine things imaginable during the interview process.
But today’s segment of “Grinds My Gears” has to do with inappropriate email addresses when job hunting. So, I get emails day in and day out from candidates looking for employment, hey I get it, I have been on the job hunt more times than I care to mention. But I have noticed a trend, a little thing that just irritates me as a professional in Corporate America and more so as the person that has to read it. Please take heed, if you are job hunting and you need to send an email to a recruiter ( internal or external), an HR inbox or anyone that may forward your resume/C.V./credentials, please, please use an email address that is decent and in order. I have seen the following among countless others:
NO, NO, NO!! I nor anyone else can or will take you seriously with an email address like that! Please know for all of you pimpinanteasys and getusomes, we both discuss and laugh at you! Also, sending emails from an email address that doesn’t belong to you, so when we reply back to you we get a message saying, “This isn’t John/Jane Doe, this is his cousin. They were just using my email address. I will pass the message on to him/her”. Email addresses are FREE, get your own!
That is what grinds my gears today, please discuss among yourselves. 🙂

People want to differentiate themselves and put no forethought into their email addresses or tag lines. We in the office find it both funny and a little sad… more funny than sad though!
